AirNet Annouces $2.3 Million GSM Infrastructure Order
Melbourne, Florida - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC) today announced a $2.3 million order from an independent telephone company headquartered in the Midwestern United States. AirNet will supply GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) infrastructure equipment including AdaptaCell broadband software-defined Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs), AirSite® Backhaul Free Base Stations and associated common equipment.
"It is a pleasure to see yet another operator in the Midwest embrace AirNet's broadband, software-defined infrastructure," said Lee Hamilton, president and CEO of AirNet. "By eliminating the need for a T1 line to every base station, our AirSites can have an immediate positive impact on a service provider's bottom line. Potentially greater cost savings can be realized when upgrading from GSM to GPRS, EDGE, and 3G because the AdaptaCell is software-defined. We've designed our infrastructure so the service operator can offer high-speed data and Internet services by upgrading software, not hardware".
"AirNet's backhaul-free solution has been a big hit in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska," continued Hamilton. "Saving $500 to $1,500 per base station per month can help operators get profitable more quickly. And, AirNet's software-upgradeable infrastructure is designed to keep them profitable in the long run by limiting the costs associated with migrating to GPRS, EDGE and 3G."
AirNet Communications Corporation provides wireless base stations and other telecommunications equipment designed to allow service operators to cost-effectively offer simultaneous wireless high-speed Internet and voice services to mobile subscribers. The Company's AdaptaCell incorporates a patented radio architecture that is designed to enable operators to offer these services by upgrading base station software rather than deploying new base station hardware. The Company's AirSite® Backhaul Free Base Station carries wireless voice and data signals back to the wireline network without a physical communications link - usually a digital T1 phone line. As a result, an operator's fixed network operating costs may decrease substantially.
