AirNet Announces $7 Million Order From Carolina PCS; Total Exceeds $21 Million

MELBOURNE, Fla.-- AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:ANCC) announced today that recent orders from Carolina PCS bring total purchases to more than $21 Million. New orders exceeding $7 Million for additional base stations and software mean that Carolina PCS has ordered more than 300 AirNet GSM Base Stations to deliver wireless service in their licensed Basic Trading Areas.

The new orders were placed under terms of a previously announced contract signed with Carolina Phone in 1998. AirNet is currently deploying equipment in several South Carolina cities under the first phase of this contract. Newly ordered equipment will be used to build out the Columbia, South Carolina market as well as expand coverage in additional areas. The equipment to be supplied by AirNet includes AdaptaCell™ broadband software-defined Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs), AirSite® Backhaul Free™ Base Stations and Triple Capacity AirSite Backhaul Free Base Stations.

"With the cost advantages provided by the AirNet backhaul free solution we've been able to build out our system more rapidly than otherwise possible," said Michael Green, president and CEO of Carolina Phone. "In addition, AirNet's broadband, software-defined technology has us well-positioned for the future when our customers begin to demand high-speed wireless Internet services. We were looking for a partner we could work with in the long term and we've found that with AirNet."

"Carolina Phone's forward-looking strategy shows that wireless service providers can prepare now for the transition to high-speed wireless data," said Lee Hamilton, president and CEO of AirNet. "Deploying AirNet's broadband, software-defined base stations allows operators to evolve to the wireless internet through simple software upgrades."

"Carolina Phone's continuing confidence in AirNet equipment and services underscores our commitment to total customer satisfaction," said Glenn Ehley, AirNet's senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "We're committed not only to providing the best solution for today's wireless voice subscribers, but also to providing a reliable and cost-effective evolution path to tomorrow's high-speed data and Internet services."

AirNet Communications Corporation's award winning wireless base station products, based on over 60 patents either issued or filed, provide a cost effective, future proof solution for wireless operators as they deploy and expand their networks.
