AirNet Communications Receives $3M Follow-On Order From Pinpoint
Communications For Additional Base Station Equipment

Melbourne, FL, October 16, 2001 - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC), the technology leader in base station products for wireless communications, announced the award of another follow-on order from Pinpoint Communications for additional base stations and related equipment. The $3 million award enables Pinpoint to further expand its footprint in Nebraska and represents an important order from one of AirNet's key customers.

The ability to easily and cost effectively enlarge their coverage footprint is important for a customer such as Pinpoint. The newly purchased AirNet equipment, which will be delivered in 2001 and 2002, will allow Pinpoint to extend its Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) network to North Platte, Hastings and the surrounding areas, thus providing existing and new customers with a more valuable service. In order to provide urban coverage, Pinpoint will utilize additional AirNet AdaptaCell™ broadband, software-defined base stations. Pinpoint will deploy the AirSite® Backhaul Free™ base stations in less dense areas, which provide economical coverage by eliminating the need for expensive T1 services in less populated regions.

“AirNet's unique system is the only cost effective means Pinpoint can use to provide coverage to our less densely populated rural areas while maintaining a technology edge for the future,” said Richard Shoemaker, president of Pinpoint. “The AirSite Backhaul Free base station significantly reduces operating expense yet still retains the capability to provide high-speed wireless Internet applications.”

“We are very pleased to extend our relationship with Pinpoint and look forward to this additional expansion of the network,” said Glenn Ehley, president and CEO, AirNet Communications. “AirNet has clearly demonstrated that its software-defined base station solution is the correct choice in today's competitive market. Pinpoint is building out its network with the most flexible, cost effective solution, and this follow-on order signifies their commitment to migrate to a higher-speed, next-generation wireless network.”

The AdaptaCell broadband, software-defined solution enables wireless operators to easily migrate to GPRS or EDGE on their existing AirNet base stations by simply upgrading software. The upgrade can be performed remotely from a network control center, dramatically reducing the cost and time of deploying the solution to every cell site.
